Code of ethics

The Center for Project Innovation’s
Code of Ethics guide alumni and industry
in the best practices of ethical decision
making in project management.

As Project Professionals, we are honored with the responsibility to lead the projects that shape our world. This Code of Ethics is a declaration of our collective commitment to act with integrity and ensure that our conduct always reflects the very best of our profession.

These principles are not merely aspirational but serve as a guide to every Project Professional in their daily activities. They shape our decision-making processes and foster a culture where ethical considerations are paramount.

With this Code, we go beyond adherence to invite reflection, ongoing dialogue, and continuous improvement in our pursuit of excellence. It is a living document, dedicated to sustaining the trust and confidence placed in us by our clients, stakeholders, and society.

Let these ten principles guide our actions and inspire us to elevate our profession through ethical practice.

1Professional Integrity: We will conduct ourselves honestly and ethically wherever we operate, continually improving the quality of our services. Our reputation will be based on honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility, integrity, trust, and sound judgment. We won't compromise these principles for short-term gain.

2Conflicts of Interest: We will ensure our personal interests do not conflict with the interests of our projects. We will be honest in all communications and avoid using stakeholder contacts to advance private business or personal interests at the expense of clients. We will fully disclose any potential conflicts to our clients, refraining from being a part of decision-making processes until stakeholders decide our continued involvement.

3Ethical Remuneration: No bribes, kickbacks, or similar considerations will be given. We shall avoid giving or accepting gifts, gratuities, fees, bonuses, or excessive entertainment for influence.

4Data Privacy: We will safeguard proprietary, confidential, or otherwise sensitive information, treating it with discretion. We will never share this information for personal gain, only disseminating it in accordance with the ethical needs of our project.

5Fair Competition: We will not gather competitor intelligence by illegitimate means and avoid exaggerating or disparaging comparisons of the services and competence of others.

6Compliance and Respect: We will obey all laws and client policies, acting with respect and responsibility, disclosing unethical behavior. We will always engage in good faith without offending, insulting, humiliating, or intimidating others.

7Honest Representation: We will avoid deceptive behavior, including half-truths, material omissions, false or misleading statements, or providing information out of context. All project estimates will be based on rigorous and transparent forecasting techniques.

8Equality and Fairness: We will not engage in favoritism or nepotism in hiring, firing, or awarding contracts. We will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, disability, religion, political opinion, national extraction, or social origin.

9Keeping Promises: We will strive to fulfill our commitments, taking ownership of our mistakes and making prompt corrections. We will promptly communicate errors made by those under our responsibility to the appropriate stakeholders and take remedial action.

10Accountability: As Project Professionals, we will foster a culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law. We will support others in the profession in their efforts to comply with this Code and encourage the calling-out of unethical behavior.
